Later this month, I return to Malaysia in my capacity as course designer and director of the children’s chorus categories of the XI Malaysian Choral Eisteddfod [Festival].
This year, I will travel with eight young Irish choral enthusiasts ranging in age from 8 to 23. Over the past few months, we have prepared a short programme of Irish songs, many sung in the Irish language, and all communicating the spirit of our Irish heritage and strong song tradition.
A week-long tour will see us perform at the Irish Ambassador’s Residence, at the Kolej MARA Banting (KMB) and the Bentley Academy of Music. We will facilitate children’s vocal choral workshops and collaborative ‘Sing an Irish Song’ sessions. Our week will culminate with our involvement in the XI Malaysian Choral Eisteddfod, as director, performers, facilitators and participants, respectively.
Thanks to our enthusiastic collaborators on the ground, our time in Malaysia is being shaped into a gorgeous tour with real connections being made with each generation of our peers.
